ACADEMY DIRECTOR

O’Maro Bekelé

Theatre director, master drummer, dub poet and educator. His practice is rooted in rhythm, voice, embodiment, Caribbean cultural inheritance and the belief that young people grow when creative work asks something meaningful of them.

THE BEKELÉ METHOD

The method connects performance technique with the person doing the performing. It asks not only “Can you execute the task?” but “Can you listen, communicate, commit, collaborate and understand what you are expressing?”
